Yan Gi Cheng is a British born Chinese Artist currently based in Berlin. He is a graduate from BA Hons at Central Saint Martins (2003) and MFA at Chelsea College of Art London (2008).

Yan’s multidisciplinary art practice spans drawing, collage, performance, sculpture, painting and video. His work explores the intersections of contemporary and ancient philosophy, art and religion from both western and non western perspectives. He aims to articulate the contradictions and trajectories across these disciplines so as to form new converging vocabularies which represent the universal, metaphysical and intimate worlds within us.

He has worked extensively with Hussein Chalayan creating high tech concept fashion and video art, Paris. He has exhibited with Art-I-Curate, i’klectik and the Woodmill Neckinger Depot, London. He has worked with On and on Theatre and Videotage at The Cattle Depot, Labyrinth V.01, Ground Zero, Kapok, Osage Gallery, Exit Gallery, Boom Gallery, Hong Kong. He has shown at M50 and Studio Rouge, Shanghai. He has participated in projects at the NARS Foundation, Mixed Greens Gallery, dotdash3.com, Hudson Rising, Satellite Project, NYFA, Leslie Heller Workspace, New York. He has performed at Plateau Gallery, Ida Nowhere and The Insitute für Alles Mogliche, and exhibited as part of Asian Contemporary art platform NonBerlin, Berlin. He has been an Artist in Residence at Residency Unlimited, NARS Foundation and The Wassaic Project, New York and The Institute für Alles Mogliche and Zona Dynamic, Berlin.
