New Parallelia

‘NEW PARALLELIA’ was a science fiction text based performance comprised of a narration which blurred the boundaries between fact and fiction. Yan combined the accounts of two books; “The Way To Rainy Mountain” by N. Scott Momaday and “Hyperspace; a Scientific Odyssey Through Parallel Universes, Time Warps and the Tenth Dimension” by Michio Kaku. The former mentioned being the creation myths of a Native American tribe from New Mexico and the latter mentioned being a scientific theory of tenth dimensional hyper space reality. He found a binary relation between these two seemingly disparate subject matters and by reworking them together, he transposed words like a wormhole between one book to the other; it led to an abstract narration which was devoid of a fixed point in time and space. Yan performed the text imitating the automated voice from Google translate with each word metronomically timed, his body acting as an instrument between the virtual and the physical landscape.
